Introduction of Nishikigoi

Japan’s koi enjoys the reputation of “King of ornamental fish” in the world. Its birth dates back more than 200 years to the late Edo period. A place once called as the Nijyumuragou, which is now the Yamakoshi area of Nagaoka City in Niigata and the eastern area of Ojiya, this place is very rich in magoi. Among them, the appearance of koi with color and pattern due to mutation is considered to be the beginning of koi.
